Evans, Ga. - Students in Columbia County could start school a week early this upcoming year.

Superintendent Charles Nagle presented a proposal of the new school calendar to board members this week.

Students would still have Thanksgiving week off but would start August 5th, instead of the 10th.

"I've already spoken with some parents and they're upset with the fact that the draft calendar starts August 5th and they think that's too early. Personally, I may be inclined to agree with them. But we'll come together as a board with the comments from the community. We'll listen to what the staff has to say and as a whole we'll make a decision," said Columbia County school board member Mike Sleeper.

The next school board meeting is set for March 24th.
