WASHINGTON, Ga. - Thousands of racers competed in the "baddest" sport in the world on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The ATV and Motorcycle off-road races were held by the Grand National Cross Country Series in Washington, Ga.
Racers say this sport "breeds adrenaline."
The rumbling engines of hundreds of ATV's at a starting line make rider William Yokley feel ready for the race.
"When you hear everybody getting ready, how does it make you feel," NBC Augusta 26 News asked Yokley.
"Like running somebody over," Yokley said.
With the hundreds of mud holes through the 15-mile wooded course, the Grand National Cross Country ATV and motorcycling racing series is not a clean event.
Professional rider Chris Borich had to clean himself off before accepting his medal.
"We had to wash up for the podium but yeah you're usually filthy out there," Borich said.
Borich was last year's champion, but this year he came in second.
"We're hoping to stay consistent this year, we're looking to pull some wins off," Borich said.
He along with the thousands of other racers travel all over the U.S. and the world to compete in off-road races.
One of GNCC's security guards, John Knox, is a man of considerable size.
"They know not to mess with me," Knox said.
Still, Knox says he would never do what the off-road riders do.
"I'm actually one of those guys who rides a Harley down the road. I think these guys are nuts," Knox said.
After eight years in the pros, the scary courses don't bother Borich anymore.
"It just a good time," Borich said, "nothing much."
These guys consider the sport action packed and fun for the family.
"We're one big happy family," Knox said.
