AIKEN, S.C. - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford plans to veto a large part of the state's budget on Tuesday.
He was in Aiken Monday explaining why. The governor spoke to more than 100 people at the Rotary Club of Aiken. He said the $5.7 billion spending plan will leave taxpayers with a huge bill.
"It's a budget that I think is fundamentally flawed for the way it sets us in our course," said Gov. Mark Sanford. "It will dig us a $700 million financial hole 24 months from now. I think it's flawed for compelling me to spend every single dime of the stimulus money rather than setting some aside to pay down debt."
The budget gives Gov. Sanford five days to request the federal stimulus money.
