AUGUSTA, Ga. - People across the country spent the day observing this National Day of Prayer. At one service here in Augusta a certain request topped many prayer lists.
"We could pray for hours we could pray for days," Randy Hatcher said.
As part of the National Day of Prayer, Randy Hatcher and his employees prayed for their company MAU and for their clients. The business helps people find jobs.
"Our company about five years ago decided we need to give people the opportunity to send us their prayer requests," Hatcher said.
The employees of MAU gathered around a flagpole on Greene Street to pray for their clients. Although they have done this before it's the requests they got that sets this year apart.
"We had more this year that were please help me find a job." Hatcher
"People are hurting. People are hurting very very badly," Bill Hatcher, Randy's father, said.
Other requests also reflected the current economic times.
"They're foreclosing on my house I need help with that," Hatcher said.
The National Day of Prayer service at Curtis Baptist School also touched on some national topics including politics.
"Whether we agree philosophically we still pray because they're under a lot of pressure," Bill Pevey of the school said.
Bill Hatcher, who has seen the nation's ups and downs, says the day is very important.
"Prayer is not the only answer but it's a big part of the answer to our problems," he said.
The national day of prayer is every first Thursday of May. It was started in 1952 and signed into law by President Harry Truman.
