HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - A man who's been on life support after being shot in the head on Sunday has died.
Keith Newton was found in his brother's home in Hephzibah.
Investigators tell NBC Augusta 26 News there are a number of unanswered questions surrounding his death.
Deputies were called out to a home on Megan Lane after family members found Newton shot in the head early Sunday morning.
Investigators say he lived in Waynesboro and was visiting his brother in Hephzibah over the weekend. Newton's body was found on the couch.
Deputies say Newton's brother, sister-in law and cousin were all inside the mobile home, but told investigators they did not hear any gunshots.
"Right now, what we are trying to do is find out what happened. We don't believe it was a self-inflected gun shot wound, although we can't completely rule that out. We are still up in the air as to what happened," said Lt. Scott Pebbles, Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say the gun used in the shooting belonged to the brother. They will spend the next few days working on collecting statements and analyzing that information to try to figure out what happened.
Newton's body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Augusta for an autospy on Tuesday.
