AUGUSTA, Ga. - FBI agents raided Arthur Marshall Realty on Belair Road Friday, removing dozens of computers and boxes of documents.

As NBC Augusta 26 News exclusively told you, the former Hephzibah, Georgia and NFL star is under federal investigation for mortgage fraud.

Marshall is also being sued by a veterans group. They claim he took thousands of dollars for a new facility his company never built.

Now a family is speaking out about their dealings with Marshall. They say they made the right deal with the wrong man.

"We used to come out here and chop down Christmas trees," said Ron Garnett.

It's a memory shared by generations of his family, on a piece of land it's owned since before World War II.

"It means everything to us," he said. "It's our legacy."

Tthe Garnett's own more than 80 acres of land by the lake, worth more than $2 million. They say they thought they found a way to secure it for their children as well as making money for their future.

"Education, college, anything they wanted it could pay for," he said. "It was an excellent deal."

The Garnett's put up their land as collateral, to fund a neighborhood on Hereford Farm Road with Arthur Marshall's Aubern Developments.

"We discovered through a newspaper," Garnett said. "A notice of foreclosure."

Now the land, the Garnett's past and future, is up in the air, as the FBI removed box after box of documents in its raid of Arthur Marshall Realty.

"There really aren't words to describe it. It's unbelievable," Garnett said. "It's one thing to have land and say we want to sell it, it's another to have someone take it from you. It's like a thief that comes in the night and steals your precious possessions."

The Garnetts say there's some piece of mind in seeing justice served. But, they really just have one wish.

"We're doing everything we can to save our land. To get it back to where we were before Mr. Marshall."

Investigators say there's still a lot of work left in their case against Marshall.

We'll continue to stay on top of this story on NBC Augusta 26 News.
