Meteorological spring starts on March 1. The mean daily temperature for this winter is 43.0 degrees Fahrenheit. This is 3.7 degrees below the 30-year average.
February 2010 will also be the coldest February since 1978 and the 4th coldest since 1950. February will turn out to be nearly 7 degrees Fahrenheit below average for Augusta with a mean temperature of 41.5 degrees. The coldest February since 1900 occurred in 1978 with a mean temperature of 40.1 degrees.
Cold winters are typical during an El Nino, but interestingly are often followed by hot summers.
