Augusta set to record 5th coldest winter since 1900

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta is set to record its 5th coldest winter since 1900 and its coldest winter since 1978. December, January, and February are considered meteorological winter. Meteorological spring starts on March 1. The mean daily temperature for this winter is 43.0 degrees Fahrenheit. This is 3.7 degrees below the 30-year average.



February 2010 will also be the coldest February since 1978 and the 4th coldest since 1950. February will turn out to be nearly 7 degrees Fahrenheit below average for Augusta with a mean temperature of 41.5 degrees. The coldest February since 1900 occurred in 1978 with a mean temperature of 40.1 degrees.


Cold winters are typical during an El Nino, but interestingly are often followed by hot summers.
